The Dog Days of Summer

August 5th, 2012 by Deer Brook Inn

Need a break from the heat, or at least a distraction? Come to Vermont. In spite of the heat, the nights cool down comfortably. Sit out on our patio after the sun goes down, bring your favorite wine and enjoy fine conversation with the spectacular, star studded Vermont sky as the backdrop.

August is full of events. Every Wednesday afternoon visit our Village Green for the Market on the Green where you can buy fresh farm produce and meats, great pies and cheeses, crafts and of course local Vermont Maple Syrup. Then on Thursdays, grab a terrific sandwich from one of the many sandwich shops and sit on the Village Green and listen to the Brown Bag Concerts at noon. The Billings Farm has an exhibit of quilts and the museum, Manager’s House and the Rockefeller Mansion are not to be missed.

If outdoor activities are your thing, we can set you up with hiking and biking trails, kayak and canoe trips. If you prefer shopping, antiques, galleries, beautiful mom and pop stores on “Main Street” we have those too. You just can’t go wrong in Vermont.

August 11 is The Taste of Woodstock. Taste the cheeses, wines, and beers of the area and dance, eat ice cream and much more.

So come on- we are waiting for you.

Fend Off the Blahs

January 3rd, 2012 by Deer Brook Inn

That’s right- it is January! Fend off those blahs that hit you around mid January. A ski trip might be nice but the important thing is a change of pace and a change of scenery. What better scenery than in Vermont? As you cross into Vermont, you can’t help but make that sigh of relief. It just happens. Make it happen for you.

Our apologies to folks who have tried to reach us by phone and have gotten disconnected. We just discovered that rural areas around the country, such as ours, are having problems with long distance phone calls. It is called a call termination problem. That means that you make a call and your phone company sends it out but doesn’t follow it all the way to us. It has   contracted  it out to some other company that can do it at a lesser cost to carry it to us, BUT it won’t guarantee that it gets to where you want it.

So send us an e-mail to deerbrook@vermontel.net or call us on our cell phone 802-369-0776. We look forward to hosting your visit to Woodstock, Vermont

Happy 250th Birthday Woodstock!!

May 29th, 2011 by Deer Brook Inn

The next couple of weeks are jam packed with activities for the body, the soul, and the mind. For example, every Sunday in June is Ice Cream Sunday Days at Billings Farm to commemorate Dairy Month. Lend a hand making the ice cream and then, of course, you can eat it. Each Sunday will have a different flavor. On Wednesday, June 8th, the Market on the Green opens. This weekly Wednesday event offers fresh agricultural products from our local farms. And then on Saturday, the 11th, the Mt Tom Farmers Market opens for the summer.

Don’t miss the annual Alumni Day Parade around the Village Green honoring old and new Woodstock High School Graduates. Interested in painting? On June 13, 14, and 15 join us for Plein Air Workshops. You can call 802-457-3046 for more information. The weekend of June 17 and 18 will hold the first Digital Media Festival for geeks, electronee folks and technocrats. Can you really afford to miss that? And while you are here, you may as well enjoy the 31st Annual Quechee Hot Air Balloon Festival which consists of balloon rides, crafts shows, music and food.

Don’t miss the Brown Bag Concerts every Thursday on the Village Green. June 26 through July 2 is Interplay Jazz 2011. Musicians of all ages and from all over come to attend workshops and classes during the day and then every evening the public can attend concerts and jam sessions on the Green, on the banks of the Ottauquechee River and various other places around town. On July 11th, don’t miss “Vermont Fiddling: Old Time Rules Prevail” to find out the history of fiddling in Vermont and the state of fiddling today!

OH my gosh….. I almost forgot.

On July 10, 2011, come celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the Town of Woodstock. Picnics, horse-drawn wagon rides, live entertainment, and games are the order of the day.

Why Come to Vermont?

May 17th, 2011 by Deer Brook Inn

You know that feeling you get at the end of the day when you finally sink into your favorite chair, or when you get a chance to pamper yourself and slip into a soothing warm bath? It is that “AAHHH” feeling. That is what it feels like when you cross the border into Vermont. Vermont is a feeling as much as it is a place. That Vermont feeling is what makes this state special, and it is special! From its covered bridges to its quick flowing rivers and streams, from the green-ness of the land to the blue-ness of the sky, everything says, “Relax.” From the friendliness of the people to the lack of billboards (there are none in Vermont) you will feel at home even if you have never been here before. But unlike at home, we will take care of everything you need.

There is so much happening in the upcoming weeks, but that is not why people always come to Woodstock. They come to feel that feeling. That relaxed, “treat yourself to a break” feeling that only Vermont has to offer.

Come to Deer Brook Inn, do your own thing during the day, eat in our many fine restaurants, then relax on our outdoor breakfast patio, or sit on our lawns and have a picnic. We will do the rest! We look forward to meeting you.

Thank You For Your Understanding

March 29th, 2011 by Deer Brook Inn

The new site is finished… It took a while longer than expected (though not bad for 4 days work), as it was completely redesigned to meet the standards of today, while anticipating and preparing for the needs of the future. Nothing was overlooked. It was designed, created, tested, tweaked and tested some more, until David and George were satisfied with every detail. Everything is based on the newest technology available. It’s better and faster than anything I’ve ever built before.

Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding. Please Enjoy
