The Summer

We have had the rain and the heat like everybody else on the east coast.  But our lakes and streams are spring fed and very refreshing.  Swim in them, canoe or kayak on them, picnic by them!  The summer offers you all kinds of activities.  Bookstock  on July 28 has reading panels led by current authors, vintage book sales, book art exhibits and food and music on the Village Green.  The Killington Music festival goes on through July on Killington Mountain.   Check out what is happening in the Woodstock area on www.woodstockvt.com.  Treat yourself, you deserve it!  One of our rooms is waiting for you.

Spring Into Vermont

Finally Spring has arrived!  The trees have blossomed in an intense shade of green validating the name of our beautiful state, the Green Mountain State.  You cross the border into Vermont and you can’t help but sigh with relief.  We  are in full swing now.   Come enjoy our museums, galleries, historic sites, small independent shops.  Bring your bikes, canoes, kayaks or rent them here.  Drive through the beautiful countryside without ever seeing a billboard, box store or fast food place.  Life is a little slower here.  Do you need to slow down a little?  Come to Vermont.

The Doldrums

Here We Come A-Wassailing Among the Leaves So Green

Well, the leaves aren’t green, but here we come a-wassailing! What a way to kick off the Christmas season. December 8, 9 and 10, 2012, demonstrates how the Village of Woodstock welcomes holiday travelers. Come see the live entertainment, the Victorian horse parade, and the caroling on the Village Green. Tour the historic houses all decorated for the holiday season, and attend the holiday crafts fair.

Get into the Spirit before the craziness of the holidays takes over. Come back in time to Woodstock and let the Grinch and Scrooge melt away.

Think Holidays!!!!

Hard to believe how fast the year has gone but it is almost the holiday season. Plan ahead now for some fun away from home and celebrate the holidays without all the mess! Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Stay at our beautiful inn, have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner at one of the area’s great restaurants and then go home and relax- no dirty dishes, no cleaning up after relatives- it is all done for you. Sounds good, huh? Well, give us a call and we will take your holiday reservation now.

The second weekend in December is Wassail Weekend. That is December 7, 8 and 9, 2012. Come see the Wassail parade, the Christmas tour of our historic homes, music venues to choke a horse, (but of course we in Vermont do not choke horses), caroling on the green, and many more activities and events to start the Christmas spirit bubbling up in your mind and body. Make your reservations now!

Upcoming Events

Cool things happening in Woodstock and the surrounding area this week. We have the usual Market on the Green on Wednesday and Brown Bag Lunch Concerts on the Green on Thursday. Next weekend, August 24, 25 and 26 is the Super Sidewalk Sale in the village when all the stores come out to the sidewalk and offer great and unusual things for sale. Also next weekend is the Quechee Scottish Festival and Celtic Fair and the Naked Table Project. All of these are worth visiting.

Upcoming in the next few weekends are the Plymouth Folk and Blues Concerts in Plymouth Notch (Sept 1 and 2) and then the Woodstock Art Festival and Wine Tasting with over 30 artists on the Woodstock Village Greeen on September 8 and 9!

The Dog Days of Summer

Need a break from the heat, or at least a distraction? Come to Vermont. In spite of the heat, the nights cool down comfortably. Sit out on our patio after the sun goes down, bring your favorite wine and enjoy fine conversation with the spectacular, star studded Vermont sky as the backdrop.

August is full of events. Every Wednesday afternoon visit our Village Green for the Market on the Green where you can buy fresh farm produce and meats, great pies and cheeses, crafts and of course local Vermont Maple Syrup. Then on Thursdays, grab a terrific sandwich from one of the many sandwich shops and sit on the Village Green and listen to the Brown Bag Concerts at noon. The Billings Farm has an exhibit of quilts and the museum, Manager’s House and the Rockefeller Mansion are not to be missed.

If outdoor activities are your thing, we can set you up with hiking and biking trails, kayak and canoe trips. If you prefer shopping, antiques, galleries, beautiful mom and pop stores on “Main Street” we have those too. You just can’t go wrong in Vermont.

August 11 is The Taste of Woodstock. Taste the cheeses, wines, and beers of the area and dance, eat ice cream and much more.

The weather is fantastic!  The Green Mountains are deserving of their name.  Woodstock is gearing up for  terrific summer and fall seasons.  Next weekend, May 26  is the Mt Tom Farmers Market.  May 26 and 27 is Open Studio Weekend (www.vermontcrafts.com) with all artist studios throughout the area  open for visitors.

Coming up  in June are many events worthy of attending.  The month starts off with the Covered Bridge Half Marathon on the first weekend of the month.  Don’t miss the pasta supper at Suicide 6 for all of the runners and anyone else who loves pasta!  Also on June 2nd is National Trails Day Trek to Taste (UVFTS) where you can explore the trails and tastes of Woodstock.  The Woodstock Market on the Green begins this month with  fresh local produce every Wednesday on the Village Green.  Later  in the month is the Interplay Jazz and Arts(www.interplayjazz.com).   Musicians of all ages participate in a supportive and wholistic environment through the study of jazz and improvised music.  June is “Meet the Baby Farm Animals” month at Sugarbush Farm(www.sugarbushfarm.com).

Don’t miss the 33rd Annual Quechee Hot Air Balloon Craft and Music Festival(www.quecheeballoonfestival.com) on June 15, 16 and 17.  The Balloon Glow is not to be missed!

June 22 and 23 is the Woodstock Digital Media Festival(www.woodstockdigital.com) .  Learn about the most innovative and thought provoking digital media.  Artists, educators,, non-profits and business leaders lead workshops in all kinds of digital media areas. This is a must see for those who are into that kind of thing.

Don’t miss the History in Bloom Garden Tour(www.woodstockhistorycenter.org)  on June 30th.  See some of the most beautiful gardens in Vermont on the grounds of our beautiful old historic Woodstock homes.
